Get to know him in our weekly Community Call
“Terra’s ingenuity lies in the fact that allows someone like my grandma to be an active blockchain user.”
We are excited to introduce our Team Feature Series to provide our community members with a glimpse into the individuals that make up the Terra team in conjunction with our forthcoming weekly Terra Community Calls! This is an opportunity for us at Terra to provide our community with greater transparency and get to know our community members better, and you, us.

Terra’s approach to building has been research-driven from the onset. The solid underlying fundamentals and mechanism design are the result of thoughtful and evolving research, with the Research Team serving as the backbone of the team here at Terra.
We’re thrilled to introduce Core Researcher Nicolas Andreoulis. An economist by training, he is passionate about using empirical methods to study interesting problems. Prior to joining Terra, his research as a Senior Research Specialist at the Julis-Rabinowitz Center Public Policy and Finance at Princeton University focused on the interplay of financial markets and the real economy. Holding a Masters in Economics from the University College London, Nicolas also gained invaluable expertise working as a researcher at the London School of Economics and the Institute of Fiscal Studies.
If anyone exemplifies Terra’s central tenet of intellectual rigor and integrity, it is Nicolas, fully devoted to deriving solutions to complex problems that stem from asking the right questions.
“Having spent a considerable amount of my adult life as an empirical economist, I developed a good understanding of the frontier methods in econometrics and statistics. More importantly though, I learned how to ask the right questions. All problems, no matter how complicated they may seem at first, can be decomposed to smaller easier to answer parts. Being able to find a model that strips away the unnecessary parts, while capturing the essence of the underlying process is the main lesson I derived from my academic background.”
A true data nerd, he is a firm believer of utilizing data as much as possible and approaching problems in a rigorous and quantitative manner. In fact, the following quote is the unwavering principle that guides him in all the work he does:
“In God we trust, all others must bring data.”
— W.E. Deming
Though an academic at heart, Nicolas joined the Terra Team because of the manner in which research and application seamlessly go hand-in-hand, a rare combination.
“Terra’s ingenuity lies in the fact that allows someone like my grandma to be an active blockchain user. That’s what initially got me excited about the project. I was impressed at how Terra has been driving adoption by carefully crafting the right incentive structures.”
As a Core Researcher at Terra, Nicolas brings every ounce of his immense intellectual curiosity and rigor and applies it to developing Terra’s monetary policies, allowing Terra to continue innovating unprecedented incentive models.
“Working on the more technical sides of Terra, I study policy topics I am passionate about, with impact and responsibility that would be unimaginable in other more traditional occupations.”
