Connecting cars to DIMO will involve a device, not unlike a Hotspot. The DIMO Data Miner will allow drivers to earn rewards and send rich data from their cars with maximum security. Now for the most exciting part: DIMO is prototyping a version of this device that will transmit vehicle data over Helium 5G using compatible FreedomFi Gateways alongside the DIMO Data Miner. This underpins the potential for cars to verify coverage and, quite literally, drive massive usage on the Network.
To get to this point, DIMO Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, Alex Rawitz, reflects on the role of The People’s Network:
“We were inspired by Helium, particularly when we think about the novelty of activating a community of people who are willing to purchase, install, manage, and maintain infrastructure on behalf of building a connectivity platform. The ability to orchestrate activity in the real world with tokenomics is truly novel, and we think the most revolutionary use case yet for crypto.”
For those not interested in earning rewards, DIMO also provides a software-only option that sends data using an existing car app — no data required. However, besides not connecting to Helium, this option also sends significantly less data than the aforementioned option.
There are countless ways to get involved, including:
- Add your car to the waitlist. As DIMO prepares to onboard users, owners will be notified to connect their cars. There are no restrictions on the types of vehicles that can join the waitlist, but DIMO will only allow Electric Vehicles to earn rewards, at least at the start.
- Use your skills as a developer. Are you an enthusiast who believes you can build a better world by making vehicle data more accessible? Do you have experience decoding DBC codes? If you answered yes to all of the above, DIMO would love to chat.
- Join the DIMO Discord community. Members have the opportunity to help expand growth, governance, and much more. Best of all, you may be able to help DIMO leverage the Helium Network in more ways than one!
