Qtum’s July was marked by two major events — GeckoCon and the hard fork. As always, let’s start with our July staking results.
- Total Unique Stakers: 1,575
- Total Unique Delegated Addresses: 252
- Total Unique Super Stakers: 24
- QTUM Awarded to Stakers: 41,849.5
We did our monthly Topic and Content contests with our community members. Qtum has the privilege of having a brilliant and highly active community. Here is what they came up with this month.
The “Topic Contest” was exclusive to our Discord members. The idea was to provide our members with different questions and reward those who gave the best answers. Let’s go through the top five best answers of this contest.
#1 shetilka#9414 on being careful with NFTs
We have to be very careful in the NFT field. Let’s list them under 3 main headings.
1. Artworks: The sole purpose of these NFTs is art. There are no uses.
2. In-game NFTs: With these NFTs, you can play games and earn tokens. It’s a small introduction to the world of the Metaverse.
3. NFTs created by influencers: These are the most dangerous parts. These NFTs have no use whatsoever. These NFTs have nothing to do with art. They sell completely useless NFTs to their community.
When you buy an NFT, be sure to pay attention to what it will do. My favorite NFTs are those used in-game.
#2 erlikwindsteel#2839 on interacting with the community
Yes, I read updates and reports. Generally speaking, making statements to the community is part of the trust. But it seems like some things are missing. For example, when I think about what it could be: maybe there should be expressions that everyone can understand more clearly, and that can attract people. Also, the activities people do on Discord should be mentioned in a smaller part on Medium. Another platform can be used for advertising. When examined from the outside, it is seen that your Twitter account is weak in advertising.
On the other hand, social media can be organized more professionally with another account. Perhaps, a separate team can be created, and social advertisements can be made. When viewed from start to finish. It seems that something needs to be done for our community. But with different views and skills. Do not rush. Weigh what’s on hand and see what’s up now.
#3 eleanor#6427 on Qtum staking
I’ve been thinking for a long time about the best QTUM staking… Is it better to have my own node or delegate my QTUMs to someone else? Isn’t it better to use the services of Binance etc.?
After all this thinking and calculating I came to the conclusion that the best solution is to stake on my own node. My RPi consumes minimal power, I don’t pay super staker fees, and I still help network security 🙂.
#4 CREARTHUR#0934 on improving the Qtum blockchain
I’ve never really been to other online events that were organized in such a way. It took me a while to understand my way around the virtual world and saw a lot of fun characters whom I very much had productive conversations with. This happens to be my best hitherto now.
Thank you for such a wonderful experience really.
2. To be honest, I feel I’ve not really known much, but what I love the most is the democratic and open-mindedness the community gives. This way, the Qtum blockchain has very much space for improvement, and these improvements will be attained quickly. Not to go too in-depth, I love that the software allows users to create their NFTs, and this is incentivized too. Awesome!
#5 nesrin#7678 on US’s recession denial
Even though Biden did not accept the recession allegations, the USA started to go into recession slowly. Even if the Fed continues to increase interest rates to lower interest rates, the real biggest problem will be a recession. They will either accept to live with inflation, or they will go into recession. So what can happen? The economic sanctions imposed on China are loosened — pressure on OPEC members and oil These two options bring relief to the markets. Therefore, it is necessary to be cautious until the Fed’s movements in September. Those who buy from the 18k region can continue with stocks by taking profits. I am 27–28k. If the good scenarios I mentioned above come true, I am waiting for the 33k region. After that, the purchases depending on the fear index will lead the way.

Qtum kicked off July with a bang by mining our 2 millionth block!
Qtum released its 2022 Q2 (April, May, and June) expenditures in July. During this period, the Qtum Chain Foundation spent 44.2 bitcoin at an average of 14.7 BTC per month.
For the quarter, the funds were split as follows — Technology Development 37.6%, PR and Marketing 41.8%, Operations Costs 1.8%, Compliance Costs 0.0%, Business Development 18.8%, and Technical Cooperation 0.0%.
The third edition of Crypto Canvas will run from July 1 to August 12. Mint NFTs on Qtum testnet and win prizes worth 2,000 QTUM.
All entrants must post an image of the NFT minted from their Twitter account and their transaction ID on Twitter with #CryptoCanvas3. Afterward, entrants will submit their posts on the Crypto Canvas 3 Discord channel.
Qtum hard forked on July 31 at block 2,080,512. This update added Taproot/Schnorr signatures, a new Ethereum Virtual Machine evmone, and bug fixes. Prior to the hard fork, the users operating the Qtum Core Wallet updated their software to version 22.1 (https://github.com/qtumproject/qtum/releases).
Qtum had a major presence in CoinGecko’s GeckoCon. CoinGecko is the world’s largest independent crypto data aggregator. GeckoCon’s main mission was to update users on how Web3 will empower the Decentralized Future. Even though the conference was in the metaverse, Qtum hosted a beach party and DJ performance, IRL in Colombia, that live steamed to screens in the metaverse. So yeah, we went very meta to say the least.
The Qtum section consisted of four main activities:
- Guarda wallet rewards
- The GeckoCon treasure hunt
- Fashion show + live music from a DJ + live concert
- Miguel Palencia’s speech.
Here is an introduction to the Qtum chain from our YouTube channel.
Qtum will also be attending the 2022 Shanghai International Blockchain Week hosted by Wanxiang Blockchain Labs. The event will be taking place from Sept.16–21.
