Game of Chains ✨
Phase 2 officially ended on November 25, 2022! We hit a number of important milestones we are so excited to share! Buckle up:
Game of Chains validators launched three new consumer chains, giving them a feel for the governance process and the DevOps that will be required to launch real consumer chains in production. These 3 consumer chains include:
Gopher — This is a consumer chain built by Hypha to help test the Go relayer with Interchain Security.
Neutron — This consumer chain will run in production come Interchain Security launch! They’ve been building their permissionless smart contract development platform for the past few months. Check out their announcement on launching Game of Chains here!
Hero — This is the placeholder name for the Generic Asset Issuance Chain which is set to issue USDC come Interchain Security launch. Big shoutout to the StrangeLove team for developing Hero and putting in the work to get the Generic Asset Issuance chain to launch!
Throughout this process, validators voted on proposals, started up the consumer chains, set up relayers, and worked to ensure that their nodes were adequately configured to minimize downtime. Validators also ran through the motions of removing Apollo through a governance proposal, which was started in Phase 1.
Validators and the broader Cosmos community have been actively participating in public discussions on Interchain Security including thoughts on ICS risks, validator operational overhead, auditing binaries, the role of testnets in ICS, and more! Check out this great Q&A discussion hosted by Citizen Cosmos here.
We are already in the beginning stages of Phase 3 where validators will continue to run consumer chains and go through the process of starting and stopping consumer chains. Hypha has redistributed voting power so that the testnet coordinators no longer have majority control of the network. This will force validators to play a more active role in governance and keep everyone on their toes to ensure that the testnet keeps running!
In this phase, we are asking validators to propose new chains and vote on them. Those following along can keep track of which chains have been proposed here. We already have Duality about to be onboarded as their governance proposal went live late Friday evening!
We are keeping score of where validators are in the leaderboard on interchainsecurity.dev. Thank you to everyone who has submitted evidence of their task completion. If you haven’t please make sure to do so to be eligible for a prize! Please note that tallying takes time and we’re trying to update the leaderboard once a week so the leaderboard won’t always have a full picture of validators standing in Game of Chains.
MASSIVE thank you to everyone for participating in Phase 2. Looking forward to seeing the validators become more self-sufficient in Phase 3and all of the new chains that will be proposed!
